Malware
Yeah I know that word is a new word and is not a word found in any old dictionary. Malware is one of those words that someone made up late one night after a few drinks around a bonfire.
This is a description of this word which comes directly from Wikipedia:
‘Malware‘ is an umbrella term used to refer to a variety of forms of hostile or intrusive software, including computer viruses, worms, trojan horses, ransomware, spyware, adware, scareware, and other malicious programs. It can take the form of executable code, scripts, active content, and other software….. from Wikipedia
.
But Don’t Virus Programs Remove Those
Its a funny thing if you read the description it does mention viruses as part of ‘Malware’, so you would think that virus programs would take care of all of those.
Yes you would be correct.. Nod for example does take care of Malware, which is why I mentioned on the previous page that at a bare minimum you need an antivirus program, you don’t need a separate program to deal with Malware.
.
So why do I use Malwarebytes?
There is one program in the marketplace which I also believe is miles ahead in its ability to manage malware, its a program put out by Malwarebytes and its actually called ‘Malwarebytes’
Out of all my computers I only have 2 computers with Malwarebytes installed. I only have it installed on my main work pc and my main home pc. Simply because these pc’s are used to access online banking and some other more secure locations.
.
What Nod Does Not Do
Antivirus programs will not usually stop you from going to websites that have issues.
Maybe I might stop here and try to put that another way; from my experience I have seen computers with anitvirus programs installed that will still allow me to go to websites that have viruses. Yes its usually still ok as they will almost always normally warn you once you get to the website and will usually freeze the browser and not allow you to go any further, or will stop a virus that is attempting to install on your computer
Did you know that? Did you know that simply going to a website can give your computer a virus. Yes there are people out there that deliberately setup websites to infect your computer with viruses, usually so they can get your personal information. Which is why you need an antivirus program installed on your pc if your going to be browsing the internet.
Antivirus programs by design are checking programs. They will check and scan email, your computer, and websites etc for these programs and will actually stop them in their tracks.
However Malwarebytes will usually stop me from even reaching a website that is infected, it will not even allow me to go there (or at least it will say dont go there stay away, and I would be a fool to ignore it). Or at least so far that has been my experience, I will see it warn me lots of times before Nod, however I know that if I did go to that site Nod would have saved me anyway.
.
So why use Malwarebytes
Call me paranoid, call me scared, call me anything you like. But being involved with computers and the internet sense the early days, back when websites were all text based sites and did not have any images and it was all about message boards and nothing like it is today, I have seen and spoken to many people over the years that have been affected by malware and I don’t intend to join them.
If your looking for a program to take care of Malware then Malwarebytes is the best on the market. I don’t even know if they are the cheapest or the most expensive, I only use the best and I haven’t looked at any others, I have been using them for the last 6 or so years.
But again I stress the importance of having an antivirus program like Nod, I treat Malwarebytes as extra protection, its not something I would use instead of an antivirus program.
