Windows Registry Errors
About once every 6 months we receive a frantic email from an individual whom is experiencing some sort of error – PC or Windows related.
The importance of backing up your information on a consistent basis is a must and we cannot over state this, as it can sometimes be too late once you experience a major PC problem.
Apart from obvious computer malfunctions there are other issues such as a windows registry errors which can also cause problems…
.
What Are Window Error Messages
You might suddenly attempt to run the easyas program in the normal manner and instead of seeing the program running on your screen you might get an error message, such as:
“will not start because msjet35.dll could not be found”
or
“unable to initialize windows registry”
or
“access not found “
or
“Reinstall microsoft access”
or
“Unable to run the program”
or
“unable to locate file”
or.
or… any other number of similar responses that can occur as you attempt to run the program…
.
Why Am I Getting This Error
These types of errors are always going to be associated with the windows operating system. The windows operating system has come a long way over the last 10 years but like everything computer related there is always the potential of problems arising.
This is almost always going to be a registry error. This is an internal error in the windows registry system which basically means that windows has lost its way.
It is sort of like saying to a five year old child that you are going to take him to the shops, he loves walking around the shopping center and can tell you where everything is. But if you ask him to direct you from your home to the shopping center it will be an almost impossible exercise.
This is sort of what has happened with windows. Whilst it is obvious the software exists as it was working the last time it was used, windows has now lost its way and does not know how to run or use the program.
.
What Is The Cause
From my own experience there are some common issues with relation to windows registry errors.
The most common reason is going to be because of power fluctuations which has caused an error to occur in the registry. These types of power fluctuations can happen because of some of these events:
- storms
- lightning near the home or hitting power lines miles away
- mains power fluctuations, which can sometimes be noticed when you see your lights dim and go bright
- windows locking up and causing you to turn the power off to the computer to restart it.
Another common issue causing windows registry errors can be due to the installation or un-installation of programs. This I know makes no sense as your suppose to be able to do that in Window, but yet I know that this has and can cause these errors
Viruses can be a huge issue. Even though you might have software installed that removed the virus from the computer it can be too late, as the damage to the windows registry can already have occurred, or can occur as a result of cleaning the virus out of the system.
The above are the most common reasons, but there are others.
Another point I would like to mention is that sometimes these registry errors will not present themselves until you restart windows next time. For example; you might get a power fluctuation and see your lights dim slightly, but the pc might stay on and you keep using it. So you expect everything to be alright, and when you finish your work you shut the pc down in the normal manner.. But the next time you restart the computer and attempt to run the program you might suddenly see an error.
.
How Do We Fix The Problem
There is only one way that I know of to resolve these types of errors, and that is to reinstall the EasyAs Software, HOWEVER you need to read and pay attention to the following information because if you don’t you could loose ALL your Data.
By reinstalling the program you are simply re instructing Windows how to use and run the software, thus overcoming the windows registry issue.
Read all of these Steps Before attempting this process, you must backup your data before you attempt to correct the registry issue – see Step 1, and pay special attention to the heading at the bottom of this page Titled “Please Note”
.
Step 1
This is the most IMPORTANT part of this whole process. If you have not already backed up your data then You must ensure you backup your data files before you attempt to go to Step 2.
Because if you do not backup your data files you WILL loose all your information.
Obviously you cannot run the program to backup your data files due to the windows fault, but you can manually backup your data files. Please follow this link and read the instructions on how to manually backup your data files
.
Step 2
Once you have backed up your data files in Step 1, the next step is to uninstall the EasyAs Software
This is done in the usual manner like you would if you were uninstalling any software. Simply go to your windows control panel and uninstall the software from the section called “Add Remove Program Files”
It may be called something different on your operating system, but it should be obvious when you go to your control panel. If you are not sure then search your windows help.
.
Step 3
This step is a continuation of Step 2, simply go down the list of programs in the add remove programs area and locate and uninstall the “EasyAs Accounting Software 8 “
.
Step 4
Download a new copy of the EasyAs Accounting Program
Yes you will be downloading a copy of the 30 Day Trial from the main download page. This is the full program, however once you restore your data files the 30 Day Trial will disappear.
.
Step 5
Install the Software in the usual manner
The usual method of software installation is to double click on the file you have downloaded with your left mouse button, this should activate the program and start the installation process.
.
Step 6
Once you have installed the program you need to run the program for the first time..
When you run the program you should come to the screen asking you to enter your business information, this screen will appear because the software will think you are a new person using the program for the first time.
In fact if you do find yourself arriving at that screen then you know that all your effort has worked and the software should work again for you.
However if you still see the window error then please see the heading below Titled “Note”
There is no need to enter any business information into that screen, simply restore a copy of your backed up data files – see step 7
.
Step 7
When you reinstalled the software the program installed a new set of empty data files. Restoring of your personal data is simply a process of copying your backup files over the top of the new empty database files, thus restoring your data files in the process.
If you look towards the top right hand corner of that screen you will see an icon called “Restore”… Click the Restore Icon and restore your data files.
These instructions might be of help to you
Look at the 2nd half of the video located on that page as it will also be of assistance to you
Manual Restore: You could also elect to do a manual restore by simply copying the files you previously backed up into the EasyAs Data Directory. You do not have to use the restore facility that comes with easyas, you can simply copy a copy of your data files back into the easyas data directory.
.
Step 8
Once you have restored your data files, exit the program to finalize this process (this is an important step)
.
Step 9
Run the program in the normal manner and you are up and running again
.
Note:
The above process of resolving a windows registry error (relative to our software) has about a 98% success rate. In all the time that EasyAs has been in operation I have only seen 1 person who’s windows system was not able to successfully recover. If you follow the above process and you still discover and experience the same issue then you almost certainly have an irreversible windows error that may require the reinstallation of windows. As this is a problem with your PC it is outside of our scope of support and is an error with your operating system and not the EasyAs Software.
The most important aspect is that you have a backup of your data files. If you have a 2nd pc or a laptop then you could install the software on that pc and continue using the program, if you do not have access to another pc then you might need to seek assistance from someone who can help you backup all your business information so you can then attempt to resolve your problem by reinstalling windows. Remember that you will also need to backup all your other important business documents before attempting to reinstall windows, not just the EasyAs Data Files.
But before you try to reinstall windows you might want to see if the Windows Restore Facility can help. Look through your windows help and read about “System Restore”, by restoring your system to an earlier time (lets say a week ago) you might find this can also resolve your problem, if you need extra assistance with your pc then it is important that you find someone who can help you, as you do not want to find yourself in an impossible irreversible situation where you loose all your business information…
The importance of maintaining regular backups of ALL of your business information (not just the easyas data) cannot be overstated.
