Re-linking Lost Data Files
If you have an error message suggesting that your program cannot find the data files, then maybe you need to look below.
Main reasons the EasyAs Accounting Software will loose its links to the Data Files:
1 |
You have installed the Software into a directory other than the suggested installation directory. We always suggest that you install the software into the default installation directory.
|
2 |
Your data files have become corrupted and the system does not know how to read them. Because EasyAs cannot read the files it thinks they are not present and is wanting you to locate them. We suggest that you restore a copy of your data files. You may need to follow the manual process to restore your data. See the manual process on this page – Click Here

Who knows ? Yes this sounds like a silly response but after all you are using a computer.. We all know that sometimes PC’s do weird things, for no explanation. If you attempt to re-link the data files and nothing works then maybe you will need to uninstall and reinstall the software. Before you attempt any un-installation and re-installation we ask this question: “Have you backed up your data files?” Re-installing the software may cause you to loose ALL your existing data. When you re-install the software it will install a blank copy of the data files (empty, new files). Hence you always need to ensure you do regular backups and that you always have your backups stored in a safe location so you can restore them if needed.

Restoring the Link between the Data Files
This is a two stage process. You may need to re-link both data files. This will mean following this process twice, once for each file.
If your software has lost its links then you will have a pop up box appearing that looks like this:
The above image is suggesting that it cannot find a link to the EasyAcct.mdb file, click the “OK” icon.
Depending on which version of the software you are currently using your data files will be found in either of these locations C:Program FilesEasyAsAccts or C:EasyAsAccts
If using Versions 1.1 to 4.0 your files will be located at C:Program FilesEasyAsAccts
If using Version 5 (and above) your files will be located at C:EasyAsAccts
If you are not sure which version you have installed then it is best to attempt to follow the instructions for Version 5 first. If this does not find the files then follow the instructions for Versions 1.1 to 4.0
Click to go to Version 5 Instructions
Click to go to the instructions to Versions 1.1 to 4.0
If you follow these processes and it does not solve your link problem click here
Version 1.1 to 4.0
Next you will be presented with a popup which looks like this:
You will need to locate the location on your pc where these files are… This will usually be the folder in which you installed the software..
We have no knowledge where you have installed the program, as this was your choice at time of installation. However we strongly suggest that you always install the software into the standard installation directory.
In our examples we have installed the software into the standard installation directory at C:Program FilesEasyAsAccts
First I need to locate the directory, so I will click on program files to open that directory:
Next I need to click and the EasyAs directory, EasyAsAccts
Next I will then be presented with something like this:
You will need to double click on the file… In this example I use my mouse, and using the left mouse button I double click on the file called EasyAcct.mdb:
Next you will be presented with a popup like this:
You will need to click on the “OK” Icon…. Once you click on this icon the linking process for this file is complete.
You may now attempt to run the program again, in the normal manner…
BUT you have two data files, under normal circumstances if the software is unable to find one file it will normally be unable to find the 2nd file. So you may also have to re-link the second data file.
When you attempt to run the program again you may now see another popup box appearing:
This is because the software is attempting to locate the 2nd Data file… If you take a close look at this popup it is now attempting to locate the file called EasyData.mdb
Follow the same processes as above to re-link this file.
Version 5 and Above
Next you will be presented with a popup which looks like this:
You will need to locate the location on your pc where these files are… This will usually be the folder in which you installed the software..
We have no knowledge where you have installed the program, as this was your choice at time of installation. However we strongly suggest that you always install the software into the standard installation directory.
In our examples we have installed the software into the standard installation directory at C:EasyAsAccts
First I need to locate the directory, so I will click on the EasyAs directory on C Drive:
Next I need to double click and the Accts directory
Next I will then be presented with something like this:
You will need to double click on the file… In this example I use my mouse, and using the left mouse button I double click on the file called EasyAcct.mdb:
Next you will be presented with a popup like this:
You will need to click on the “OK” Icon…. Once you click on this icon the linking process for this file is complete.

Follow the same processes as above to re-link this file.
What if the re-linking does not solve my problem
If you attempt the above and you are unable to re-link the data files, especially if you attempt to re-link one of the files and each time you restart the program it wants to look for the same file again, then you may have a data corruption.
You will need to manually restore your data files as per this webpage.
After you manually restore your previously backed up data files you may not need to re-link the files. If the files were corrupted then restoring them will usually solve your problem.
What if this does not solve my problem
If none of the above solves your problem then you may need to uninstall and reinstall the software. Remember that when you un-install and re-install the software it will install blank (empty) data files. So if you have not previously backed up your data files then you will have lost all your previous information.
